Monash Institute of Medical Research official launch for Cancer Genomic Medicine

November 14th, 2012 posted by

Co-located in Clayton, within the Monash Health Translation Precinct, the Monash Institute of Medical Research is one of the country’s leading centres for hormone, reproductive health and cancer research.  In 2010 the Australian Cancer Research Fund (ACRF) awarded the Institute with a grant of $1.6 million to establish the ACRF Centre for Cancer Genomic Medicine. Recently I had the pleasure of attending the official opening of this distinguished new Centre.

The Centre is a state-of-the art facility housing Next Generation Sequencing technologies that provide a greater insight into the nature of genes involved in cancer. This will be invaluable not only for cancer prognosis, but also for identifying patients that may or may not respond to certain therapies.
