The Victorian Coalition Government has recently announced construction of the Melbourne Rail Link.

The Link will include a new underground tunnel, new and upgraded stations and a rail link to Melbourne Airport. During the day services will operate every 10 minutes providing our city with a high frequency rail service. So whether you live in the North, South, East or West, the Melbourne Rail Link will provide Victorians with more reliable, more frequent and more convenient public transport services.

The Melbourne Rail Link, will create 3,700 jobs during construction and will comprise:

•Twin 7.5 kilometre tunnels from Southern Cross to South Yarra;

•New underground stations at Fishermans Bend (Montague) and Domain;

•New underground platforms at Southern Cross and South Yarra;

•Train-tram interchanges at Southern Cross, Montague, Domain and South Yarra; and

•A rail link to Melbourne Airport.

Importantly it will allow for a future passenger rail extension to Rowville and lay the foundation for improved rail freight links between Dandenong and the Port of Melbourne.

When combined with the $2.5 billion upgrade to the Dandenong Rail Corridor, the projects will transform Melbourne’s existing public transport services.

Both projects are Victorian Government projects and able to be delivered as a result of the Government responsibly managing the state finances over the last three years. Through delivering budget surpluses and prudent debt management, the Victorian Government has the capacity to undertake these massive infrastructure projects for our State.
