For some, Valentine’s Day is about capturing the heart of that special someone but for MonashHeart, it has become a reminder for us all to love our own hearts a little more.

MonashHeart is the largest provider of inpatient cardiac services in Victoria, admitting more than 7,000 patients with acute heart conditions each year at the Monash Medical Centre, Dandenong Hospital and Casey Hospital. Experienced medical, nursing and allied health professionals work with emergency and elective patients on a range of cardiac conditions.

To ensure the vital work of MonashHeart continues, Love Your Heart Day was started in 2012 and seeks to raise awareness about cardiac illness and funds to purchase specialised equipment.

As part of Love Your Heart Day this year, it was a pleasure to attend the opening of MonashHeart Art Exhibition, which is made up of a collection that aims to lift patients spirits while receiving treatment. A number of the pieces have been donated by former patients and their families.

Regular listeners to 3AW’s Ross and John in the mornings may have also heard their efforts in assisting MonashHeart secure pledges from their listeners. The radiothon raised more than $75,000, which will facilitate the purchase of new SmartScreen interactive monitors for two CCU units.
